Before & after your appointment:

  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure. It is important to avoid prolonged sun exposure 1 week pre and post-peel and always use sunscreen.
  • Use a good moisturizer: Your skin will naturally become a bit more dry after a chemical peel. It is important to use a good moisturizer morning and night to avoid excessive dryness.
  • Retinoid: Avoid use of your retinoid (also called retinol, retin-A, or vitamin A) 3 days prior to peel and for 7 days after your chemical peel.
  • Avoid certain cosmetic treatments and certain types of hair removal. About 1 week before and after your peel, stop waxing or using hair-removal products. Avoid facial scrubs (such as exfoliators) for 24 hours before and after peel.
  • Retinoid cream. If you’re having a light or medium chemical peel, your provider might recommend using a retinoid cream beforehand and/or after to increase results and speed the healing process.
