You may have heard the term Fascial Stretch Therapy or FST – but not sure what the hype is about?
Let’s start with the basics:
The term fascia meaning “band” or “bundle”, is gaining popularity and for a good reason. Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, bone, blood vessel, nerve fiber and muscle in place, it’s what holds the whole entire body together.
What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is an innovative, assisted-stretching technique that improves both the mobility of your nerves and muscles. This is done by focusing on the fascial lines that connect through and wrap around muscles, nerves, organs, and just about everything else in your body.
Who can benefit from Fascial Stretch Therapy?
EVERYONE! Patients of all ages can benefit from a fascial stretch. Varying from those who are fitness enthusiasts and athletes to those who are elderly and looking to improve flexibility and reduce pain.
What can I expect from a typical Fascial Stretch session?
Upon your first treatment, your therapist will ask specific questions and do a full body assessment. At this time, you and your therapist will go over any issues or complaints you may have. Each session is catered to the patient’s needs. All treatments are done on the table, while being fully clothed (active wear recommended) with two straps. The straps are used to hold one leg in place, while the opposing one is stretched. This ensures a proper stretch. After the first treatment, you can expect to see an overall improvement. Many patients report having a decrease in stress, improved sleep, and a significant decrease in pain sometimes in as little as 3-4 sessions. Each treatment plan varies, which is why more than one treatment is recommended.
Why we need to stretch fascia?
Stretching the fascia will enable the muscles in your body to perform better and gain strength. When the fascia is loose and limber, our bodies can move better and quicker. There is also less inflammation being stored, which in return means our bodies are experiencing less stress.
Is the stretch painful?
Fascial Stretch therapy is NOT painful. It’s a gentle yet effective modality meant to help the client relax and stretch out. If there is ever pain or pinching, we encourage you let the therapist know.
